Very good book to start elinux

This book is VERY light on content (it's a pretty small book, 193 pages for the primary material). If you just look at the table of contents, you can get more depth in a couple hours of googling.It just isn't a very useful book. It has nothing to offer a programmer with any level of experience with Linux or embedded systems, and it doesn't really educate the guy who's new to those subjects. It's more like a collection of superficial magazine articles.The amount of real-time covered is really minimal. It touches on defining real-time computing, then has a (short and fairly useless) chapter on RTAI that doesn't do anything.Go with Yaghmour's "Building Embedded Linux Systems", it's a MUCH better book, and is probably cheaper.

It's a very good introductory book. It has a good organization of topics and brings a lot of references for further reading. There are few things I dislike and hope that may be fixed in future editions. There are examples that don't work at first because some includes are missing such as the parport.c example that I had to add a #include. Some other examples depend on tasks that might be difficult to achieve like running a kernel 2.6 on Red Hat 9.0 (I had to read a lot of forums to execute this task properly). The price is high for a book that has less than 400 pages.

I can not say that it's the best book I have ever read but I think it's simple to read.A lot of pictures make the steps easy to follow, the CD is also helpful. Furthermore, the develop is done on an old PC.This make the starting point easy and cheap but at the same time make also the limitation of the book.Some important topics are not discussed due to the development board.As first reading, I can recommend it but you need a second reading.As second reading I would recommend "Building Embedded Linux Systems"

The author uses old technology for a book published in 2006. He's too focused on his project and neglects to explain the over all picture. I didn't get much out of it.

Once again all trails books leave a lot to be desired. Even though this has a newer copyright, (2010) there is misinformation & many trails aren't represented at all. For example "Salt Creek Trail" is listed as being 10.9 miles & only in Cook County. When in reality it's 34 miles long and runs through DuPage County and starting & ending in different parts of Cook County. This trail has been this long for at least 20 years. And that's just one way. MANY other discrepancies abound.

After going on the first rail to trails, trail, in Wisconsin, i got hooked. The nice and level trails with dirt build ups in the swamps, cool above ground views of the forest bed. Tunnels! This book has lots of other trails i had not heard of near Chicago and reviews of some classic ones' i'd been on. If you are an old fart like me Rails to Trails is the way to bike. Get a book for your area, then get out and enjoy a mostly flat ride. Those long precise, 3% railroad grades can be harder than you think. but going home is fast! Fergy

This guidebook is packed with up-to-date and historic information on 42 trails. My only complaint is that the maps do not distinguish between trails and connecting, on-street passages between segments of a trail. This information is available in the text of the book, but looking at a map itself, you would not know, e.g., that the Green Bay trail beginning in Wilmette is not continuous with the North Shore Channel trail in Chicago and Evanston/Skokie; same for the Major Taylor trail gap in Beverly.

It does have some good info. I think one is better off just joining Rails to Trails Conservancy, Info is much more complete and up to date.

I love this book, checked it out at the library and decided to purchase for my hikes. Lots of great information on each trail.

I like that this book focuses on specific looks and that each look has an associated photo. However, the step-by-step instructions are done using drawings, and I think it would be easier to follow the directions if there was a picture with each step (like in Bobbi Brown's book). It would also be nice if there were helpful little tips and bullet points along the way, but i suppose that didn't really become a trend until the 2000's. It a great book, and you'll definitely learn some things, but if it were between this book and Bobbi Brown's book, I'd choose Bobbi Brown's because it gives more specific details and is generally more helpful.

This is a beautiful book. Physically, it is large and is filled with gorgeous photographs of different make up looks, tutorials, models, etc. It's a great coffee table book even if you are not into make up technique. That said, I bought this book for the make up tutorials and was so happy to find that it is so much more - Aucoin gives a great introduction and the beginning of the book focuses on tools, face shapes, what looks best, etc. It's loaded with interesting information. Subsequent chapters break down different looks for different occasions. I am a make up and product junkie but really not the type to buy a book about it - which is so funny bc I have referenced this book a million times over the years for different ideas for fun events - New Year's, a masquerade party or just to switch things up a little. Everytime I open the cover, I find myself lingering over the book, engrossed again in old chapters.....definitely check this out if you are interested in make up application, techniques or seeing how one of the (late) great masters did it.

"Making Faces" is a #CultBook. The legacy of Kevyn Aucoin. Ideal to learn about an iconic person in the industry and its work. I do recommend the book for people with a passion for the industry and/or people with intermediate to advanced makeup skills for the next reasons:- It is more textual than a just beginner book.- The how-to is not with pictures but with sketches drawn by the author, so could not be ideal for someone who wants to apply eyeshadow for the first time in life.- As the how-tos are sketches, are great for intermediate to advanced skilled people who want to work on their sketch drawing techniques.I personally love this book also because I am starting to draw my own facecharts and this help me to see how an expert like Kevin represent a makeup look with the pencil.

Great book, definitely a book a beginner can learn from and keep as a coffee table book. The transformation pictures were beautiful, I wish the diagrams had images of real eyes and lips instead of cartoonish like images but the time this book came out it is understandable why they had those type of images. This book shouldn't be your sole source as a beginner in make-up or you can get confused but it should be in your top 5 make-up books you should have. Overall though it is a good book and testament to Kevyn Aucoins work. Worth the money.

My gently used copy was scribbled on by a child using crayon on the first few pages. How do I be mad at a little artist using Kevyn as inspiration. Weeeerk.

Some probably don't even know their source.With that said, people with a grasp of how to do makeup can take a pass. This book covers basics very well. However, if you need inspiration for say, your 1990s costume or a tutorial done by picture you should grab this book. I'm still blown away by his Marilyn Monroe look for Priscilla Presley. He had a guide on how to contour your face a whole generation before it was appreciated.Making Faces is one of those makeup tomes you need to pass on to the next budding makeup enthusiast. I gave my copy to my niece once Kevyn taught me the ways of contouring and perfect smoky eye shadow. Now that the 90s are back, Kevyn's photos for his makeup looks are suddenly trendy again.

The late Kevyn Aucoin is a pioneer in the makeup industry and still has an immense impact on the world of makeup to this day. He is an Icon of his field. Today his work is still just as relevant as it was since the year 2001. He has worked with a plethora of supermodels and celebrities of all ethnicities and he brings his tips and tricks alive in this book. There are many different makeup looks to choose from to create a flawless look. There are some pretty iconic photos in this book along with his instructions on how to recreate the look. I found the instructions for the different looks easy to follow although I have yet to really try out some of the intense looks. The pages in this book are beautiful and if you love makeup as much as I do this is definitely the book for you. I do not regret buying this book one bit. I honestly wish that I had a big table or shelf to display it on. If you are a beginner to novice and on the fence about this book I would suggest you buy it, if you are a pro I would suggest you buy it as well there are so many glamorous images it has something for everyone.

So, yes, I read the whole book. 600+ pages of both the first & second book. Read the 2nd one in about a week. I couldn't put it down. Both were very depressing and the second made me want to scream and shake Julia by the shoulders. These were the longest books and the worst stories that I absolutely had to finish...and ordered the last in the series. (will start that one today) The books are really well written and suck you in. So even though the stories were awful and depressing and nothing good was ever happening...you could count on that as you read, I had to finish the whole book and couldn't put it down. Would I recommend the series? No. She has written so many better books. But, if you start reading it, you will read all of them. They are like driving by a car crash...you just can't help but look. Really makes me wonder about the author if these were her first novels. It really is disturbing and depressing material. Still love her writing style, just wish these would have been a little more uplifting instead of tragic.

the 2nd in the Wideacre trilogy. Daughter of brother/sister lovers has a love affair with her supposed cousin who is actually her brother from the same siblings in the first book. Siblings having sex with one another then have 2 children a boy and a girl who then have sex when they grow up.Horrid story.

I love Philippa Gregory and have read just about all she has written in historical fiction. I looked forward to the Wildacre trilogy - something I haven't read! I didn't think this could be worse than Wildacre (the the violence, S&M, and dark themes) well I was wrong. If rape, murder and senseless violence is what you are looking for - this is it! Nicely written. Slow paced. But the subject manner is not something I want to read about! Not for teens!

What a terrible book. After reading Wideacre I couldn't wait to read The Favoured Child and quickly bought it online. Such a waste of money, and even if I hadn't paid for it- what a waste of time! How does an author create such a strong character with such a great story then follow up with such a spineless, useless, lily-livered girl as her heroin?! I'm 70% through the book just because I keep hoping something will happen or things will get better but NOTHING happens and then when it does its so frustrating i can't stand it!! I wish I'd just left it at wideacre and never bought this stupid book. Don't read it, it's awful. I don't think I'll read anything from Phillipa Gregory ever again.

"Same song. Second verse. Could be better, but I think it's worse." That just about sums it up for me. I won't give anything away; you'll have to read it for yourself. I am a "rabid" fan of Phiilippa Gregory, but this novel left me with a taste in my mouth that wasn't pleasant. I think all three novels in the trilogy would probably make a great TV series or even a movie... Don't people ever learn.? Does history have to repeat its self? I was sick & kept hoping things would turn out different. The novel took up a lot of my evenings, so you could say, I was entertained. I can't say I wasn't warned, but like most people, I had to see for my self. Now it's your turn....

I'm a huge Philippa Gregory fan, but this is not one of her best. It's the second of a trilogy - the first being Wideacre (which I bought in paper form and loved). The main character, Julia Lacey, is set to inherit Wideacre along with her cousin, who we know from the first book, is also her brother. It's an interesting enough premise, but Julia is one of the weakest, wishy-washy characters of any book I've read. So many times through the reading of this book, I was ready to throw the book across the room in frustration. I kept reading only because I'm a die-hard Philippa Gregory devotee and I kept hoping (praying) the character would grow a set and get rid of her horrible brother/cousin. If anyone else had written this book, I would have abandoned it.In short, it was disappointing.

This book is definitely my favorite one of the trilogy. Although it ended up breaking my heart, it was the most fun and anxiously filled page turning novel of the three. Very well written, Gregory knows how to reel you in and make you feel everything for the characters, both the good and the bad.

The whole Meriden series of 3 books kept me up until all hours of the night reading. I bought this for my sister while she was visiting (she borrowed the other 2 from me) and watched her suffer through several 2 hour nights of sleep because she couldn’t put the books down. At times while reading this series, I had be “rewind” and re-read a section because I couldn’t believe what just happened. I’ve read most of Philipa Gregory’s books and this series is among my favorites. She really knows how to bring historical fiction to life.
