Interesting arguments

Awesome book by a down to earth caring author!

The argument presented in The Case for Polytheism is solid and well presented. I had to reread a couple of sections but I was at work and may have been distracted. I recommend this to anyone and everyone.

Was hoping for a thorough metaphysical examination of the topic, but he really just brushed over the minimal amount of topics to establish the possibility of polytheism. It's a weak case for polytheism, it's more like "The possibility of polytheism"

The case built by author Steve Dillon makes total sense philosophically and logically. He takes a full view of the arguments for and against polytheism and breaks them down to a simplicity that may appeal to rational thinkers who are on the fence about their beliefs. I was hoping for a bit more substance when it came to the plethora of polytheistic experiences and accounts on record from people, but then again he makes it clear that he is simply arguing that there is no good reason not to believe or consider the existence of polytheism. He is not writing an anthology of accounts or experiences to support his case, but makes note of the experiential evidence available several times. Very academic, not to say too dense for any lay person to understand, but sets up his thesis then systematically applies philosophy, logic, and reason to support his case. In that sense it is an academic read, but one that is interesting to review for those exploring or curious about the subject.

Dillon makes obvious arguments fairly well, but his degraded and almost entirely immanent theology feels incomplete, weak, and, worst of all, a mere rebellion against a more transcendent, Catholic monotheism (which is the Tradition he came from, if I recall). There are much better books on the subject out there.

It's the philosophical and theological itch I've been looking for when reading about polytheism. Very well written, small but has a lot of content. Dillion did a great job presenting the case for polytheism, and while I don't agree with some of their points, I still appreciate how they are approaching the conversation.

(My credentials: Taught high school and college English for 10 years, MA in English.)I like this book. I really want to love it, but before I could recommend it for high school and college students, it needs a second edition with some added material and better organization. It’s generally well-written and the concepts the author includes are clearly explained, but in its current form, it’s not really a practical reference for students who need help with the sentence-level problems teachers and professors are most likely to call out.Who I would recommend this book to: the student who doesn't struggle too much with the mechanics of writing but doesn't have much formal instruction in grammar and wants to cover the basics before taking a grammar course in college or before taking an AP English Language and Composition class that will expect them to understand these concepts before moving on to more advanced grammatical and rhetorical concepts. It’s also a useful reference for advanced English language learners.Specific pros and cons I noted while reading:BOOK ORGANIZATION• It’s easy to either read cover-to-cover or use as a reference. The table of contents and index are clear and easy to use.• However, the overall organization is sometimes idiosyncratic. I'm not sure why he has a whole (but only two-page) section to list/define parts of speech, then addresses spelling and sentence structure, then goes back to the parts of speech. Also, a subsection on the word "brung" is given the same importance as the subsection "writing with consistent tenses," which appears right after it.COMPOSITION• Tips for composition are to the point, and even after getting a M.A. in English, writing a thesis, teaching for ten years, and working on my own fiction, I found them helpful and inspiring. (I never thought of using PowerPoint to organize a writing project before! Duh!) But they'll also be helpful to the college freshman or high school student looking for help with tackling the blank page.• I like that each tip is stated simply and in bold at the beginning of a brief but enlightening paragraph of explanation. This makes review/skimming very easy.• The section on composition is brief but cogent. It's not intended to serve as an instructive text for a composition course but instead just a quick reference for those who need reminders about such things as the differences between intro/conclusion and body paragraphs and what kinds of things to put in a body paragraph.• The one bone I have to pick (and this may just be because it's my own biggest pet peeve) is that he doesn't address plagiarism, even briefly. I suppose this is excusable since he doesn't go into how to cite sources (since each department/program will use a different citation guide), but still, a brief "Note on Plagiarism" would be a nice reminder for students.ATTITUDE TOWARD GRAMMAR• Kudos to the author for taking a descriptive rather than prescriptive view of grammar! For example, he is flexible on the (sparing) use of coordinating conjunctions at the beginning of a sentence or the use of contractions even in formal writing.• This will probably be controversial, but I applaud the author for supporting the use of "they" and "them" to refer to a singular noun of unknown gender. He points out that this usage has been around for at least 600 years.STUDENT EDITING ISSUES• In general, the author does a good job of addressing common problems at the micro level (like forming plurals or using apostrophes correctly) but not so much at the sentence level.• He does a good job describing the most common parts of the sentence but doesn't highlight related editing issues, like run-ons, comma splices, subject-verb agreement, and dangling modifiers. He occasionally (and very briefly) touches on a few of these common errors, but they are virtually hidden and nowhere near as well-explained as the mechanical tips. He really needs a whole section on “Common Sentence Errors” with these issues covered more effectively and with bold, easy-to-find subheadings.• Sentence structure: It would be nice to have some graphic assists such as color coding or circling/underlining/arrows, especially in cases like demonstrating the direct object or object of the preposition. The verbal explanations, however, are succinct and accurate.• I do like how he explains independent and dependent clauses: it's brief and clear without getting into the issue of coordinating vs. subordinating conjunctions, which usually just makes students glaze over. (He does address conjunctions, but only after clearly and simply explaining the difference between independent/dependent clauses.)• The "Common Mistakes with Commas" section only includes two common mistakes (really just one, since they’re closely related.) There are a lot more common mistakes he could have included.• He provides good, practical, long-term advice on improving spelling.• Spelling rules: In the section on adding a suffix to a word ending in -y, it might be nice to point out the few common exceptions (like attorney - attorneys, monkey - monkeys).• I like how he briefly addresses little usage quirks like "nth" in the section on cardinal numbers and the differences in writing dates and times between the U.S. and the rest of the world. This is helpful both to English language learners and native speakers who aren’t widely read.• I like the good, solid, useful tips on how to choose verb tenses when writing about various things, like commenting on what a source says versus narrating a chain of events. The book could use more depth, especially in the preposition section. It's hard to imagine a grammar book only covers certain topics on a cursory manner. The lack of careful choices of examples throughout the book also need improvement. The author emphasizes the importance of writing to an intended readership. I wonder what that readership is being targeted with this book. The book is too general and in some cases too elementary to be useful. At the end of the book, general stylistic or grammatical advices are given. The answer of 'good' and 'well' to the question of "how are you?" being both acceptable confuses me. Anything goes is hardly a good advice even in the context of the fast-changing English language.

I'm a person who likes to buy books in perfect condition, so this really bothers me. I think it's Amazon's fault for this damage. I love this book! I found the introduction very interesting and read the first few chapters word for word. I was so curious about the other chapters that I skipped around after that. The sections are color coded (which I will never remember, but it does make it easier to get to the correct section a little quicker) cover everything from general principals to spelling to abbreviations. The most useful chapter is punctuation but my favorite was the last one that covers things such as double negatives, clichés and dangling modifiers. The book reminded me of how I was taught in High School English back in the mid 70s. Based on the way kids talk and write today, I don't think that is the case today. You definitely can tell that the author read the books by Self and specially Cordell, since many of the designs are direct applications of those books. That being said, the book delivers what it promises which is a good introduction to several audio projects and the ready-made circuits for the audio enthusiast. The major gripe I have with this and the other books of Mr. Slone, is that the pcb masks are printed on the book rather that providing a CD with the mask files, this means that in order to build the circuits at the end of the book you cant just photocopy a page without taking the book apart, you have to either cut the page or open the book so much that the spine breaks and only then you are able to photocopy the entire page properly without cutting it, the editor should consider including a CD or offer a plastic/metal comb version of the book so you can easily open the book and photocopy the circuits you want to build.

This is a reasonable source book for the beginning or intermediate builder. The included circuits are common place and not of particular interest to advanced Audiophiles. The information is sound, apart from a couple of errors, but is probably not adequate to fully understand the circuits.Unfortunately, this kindle version continues the underwhelming trend to include illegible graphics in electronic texts. Many of the schematics are barely legible, with some component values very difficult to read. To be fair, I also see this in some traditional books on technical subjects as well.If you are serious about learning audio circuits, I recommend Douglas Self's series, although at considerably greater cost. If you just want a cookbook of common circuits, this will do.

Although this book took a quite circuitous route to get here (Colorado Springs/Utah/Nevada/back to Colorado Springs) I have already dabbled with a couple of the projects and found them well thought out and presented. I would, however, avoid the Kindle version simply because the schematics are too small to read.

Randy Slone has provided a book to live on for his readers to learn from his vast knowledg and experience base building amps and electronic projects for his work and hobby. I read and read this volume for knowledge and entertainment. This is not exclusive information, but here it is presented so the expermenter or hobbiest can follow along, build and experment with his own projects. I don't know where one first learns what Randy Slone knew about audio electronics, but if you know the basics of electronics you can gain alot from his writhing. I highly recommend this book for study and just good reading.

Comprehensive coverage of audio system basic components and clear instructions on how to build them, including making your own circuit board (if you so desire). My only disappointment is that there isn't any projects for building equipment to create sound effects such as hall, delay, echo or distortion effects, which are commonly incorporated with sound systems and find occasional use.

The book itself is fantastic. Has many interesting designs and works to dispel lingering myths about Audio Devices. I have -0- complaints about the book itself. Do yourself a huge favor and buy a physical copy for your workbench.OTOH: The Kindle Edition sucks big time. About 50% of the schematics are unreadable! You cannot zoom in or see the various components at a useful detail level to determine values or part numbers, making the whole book (on kindle) useless for constructing the projects within. I have excellent vision, and my computers (3 Macs, 4 PCs) are equipped with excellent Monitors, but none of them (nor my phone or kindle) displays these troubled schematics adequately. This is flat ridiculous... I am running the latest Kindle software on both my PCs and Macs. It is offensive to me that Amazon will not add this critical and easily coded function into the software. They may think it's clever to leave it out so people will buy a physical Kindle (which CAN zoom), but its going to cost them in the end, I am already buying more books second-hand and will be avoiding ANY and ALL kindle books in the future until the Zoom functions are added to the Mac and PC versions of the software. As a result of my warnings and comments 5 other people will not be buying kindle books or devices until this is corrected, if at all. 3 of them are constantly buying books and technology... figure it out Amazon.Update about Kindle Zoom: 03/06/2011 - I upgraded my copy of Kindle for Android (For my Droid Mk. 1) and now I can zoom in on my PHONE... Still NO change on the zoom on PC or Mac, despite 2 software updates since.

For those wanting to go deeper into amplifier theory than what is presented here, this book is an execllent companion for Slone's in-depth treatment of the subject, the High-Power Audio Amplifier Construction Manual.

I read through this book and it gives a lot of sound advice about building amps. Even though, I haven't built any of the projects in the book (I have no interest in making circuit boards). It has given me the courage to build some really good amps from kits and save a lot of money doing so.

Poorly written and very difficult to follow the authors educational intent. I'm sure there are better choices out there. However, this book was a requirement for the research class I'm enrolled in and so it goes.

I took the class with this professor which exactly follows the book. Both are very poor.

I bought this book because my husband and I are planning to start a family soon and I thought it sounded interesting. I'm not really religious and believe more in the spiritual aspect of things, and this book stays true to that concept. I was completely enthralled in this book and found it hard to put down! The author tells many stories of communicating with spirit babies through his clients, and although the situations may not connect with you personally they're still amazing to read! He also gives different chants to say to help you connect with your spirit baby and allow yourself to become open and accepting of having a baby. I would recommend this to anyone...even if you don't want to do the chants or feel it may be silly, there's still a lot of good insights given, such as issues with conceiving. For example, if you have your heart set on having a girl, yet part of your spirit baby's destiny in this world involves being a boy, the spirit baby may be reluctant to leave the spirit world because they think you may not be accepting of him.

This was an entirely new topic for me but, as someone who is expecting and has lost pregnancies before, it was one I wanted to approach with an open mind. The stories within the book definitely resonated in ways other beliefs around babies/souls/pregnancy/etc have not. There were a handful of things that I raised an eyebrow at, but I don't go into any book expecting to agree or believe everything in it 100%. Definitely opened up my views a lot!

Cannot recommend this book highly enough. I've purchased so many books on pregnancy and this is the only one that touched the spiritual realm and really struck to the core of me with it's message and intuitiveness. I wish the author was still alive so I could meet him. I can only imagine what an interesting insightful man he must be.

It's a great book for any parent (or future parents), especially if you believe in reincarnations and past lives. Some stories in it will make you cry, some will make you smile, but it's all good :) I was amazing to know about preconception contracts and the fact that spirit babies actually choose their future parents in advance.

I recommend this book especially to women who are having a hard time conceiving or have had abortion(s) and miscarriages. It gave me much insight as to why things happen when the medical field is at a loss for reasons.

THIS BOOK IS SO GREAT! I read it prior to our trying to conceive and it helped to prepare and understand conception and pregnancy on a more spiritual level. I found this book extremely healing after we unfortunately experienced a miscarriage. It was an amazing tool for understanding and hope. A wonderful read for both my husband and I!

This book resonated with me on such a deep level. If you have struggled with difficult emotions related to miscarriage, abortion, infertility, still birth, adoption, or pregnancy; I cannot recommend this book enough. If you are not spiritually inclined, it may not be for you. But if you are, you will experience a great sense of healing during and after. Honestly, it feels like you know Walter after reading. So grateful 🙏

I have been studying various aspects of reincarnation for most of my life, and found this book a beautifully written perspective to round off anyone's knowledge of the subject. I am due in November, and will be using many of Makichen's methods to communicate with my little angel. I HIGHLY suggest this book to anyone whether they expect to be a parent or not!

Really interesting recopies. Definitely a number that I'd cook at home or if I had an RV. While I enjoy cooking and reading the recipes, for pure tent camping, they're a bit too involved for my tastes. I really don't want to spend a lot of time prepping things in multiple bags, storing them in a cooler, and and then go through a multi step process to cook. If you want to go all out - these would be great recipes.

What a wonderful cookbook! Simple ideas that come to life with Emma’s passion and excitement for delicious food prepared and eaten in nature. The pictures are amazing! Loved the helpful tips on how to prepare and making homemade condiments, dips, spreads and marinades. Making things special is in the details. Great for “glampers” who are looking to take their firecooked feasts up a notch or two.

Recipes are not realistic to cook over a campfire and seem to involve a ton of prep work.

This book will make you want to pack a cooler, find a good camping spot, bring some friends, and cook a great meal outside! Emma does a great job of picking interesting, tasty recipes that can be done easily outside/on a camping trip. The recipes are easy to follow and most have a section for doing some prep work before, so then when you get outside its much easier! The stories and photos that go along with the recipes are delightful to read and inspiring!I made the zesty za'atar spice and fried an egg in it and mixed it into yogurt with gyro meat ... so good!! Can't wait to make more recipes from here and go camping this summer!

This book is a must-have for anyone planning a weekend camping trip, a day hike, or an afternoon picnic in their backyard. It is chock full of incredibly thoughtful tips & tricks for preparing and packing supplies and ingredients and jam-packed with easy to follow, mouth-watering recipes! I especially love how throughout the book are sensitive reminders and suggestions for how to leave no trace and be respectful of the natural land while still enjoying it to the fullest. Emma's passion for the outdoors, superior meals, and memorable shared experiences explode from every single page. I can't wait to get cooking!

This book is going to be in heavy rotation in my cookbook lineup. I've been cooking since I was a kid and already in the first recipe I tried, I learnt something I didn't know. Turns out that I don't need to peel organic carrots, who knew. The book arrived on a Thursday night, and two days later I've already made our first meal "Welcome to the garden Thai Curry" - so good my husband and I both had two huge helpings. The recipes are easy to follow, the notes are thoughtful, and the images make you want to pack a cooler bag with ingredients and head to the woods. My only regret is not getting a picture of our meal before it was gone!

"Simple Recipes" these may be relative to a gourmet cookbook, but the amount of effort required to plan for, shop for, pack for, prepare for, and clean up after these endeavors means that the one doing the planning, shopping, packing, preparing, and cleaning up is hardly going to have a relaxing outdoor excursion or vacation. I am left with the impression that the author wants to market an idea she fantasizes about rather than one that she actually executes in real life.On a positive note - the photography is lovely. The photos do make one romanticize a feast under the stars or by the riverbank.

I’ve a long time Curtis fan. Even have a tattoo for him. I’m just on chapter 3 of the book, and so far it’s mostly about making and selling drugs. I know that’s what he did, but expected more substance in the material. I think it’s because he wrote the book when he was young, and didn’t have too much life experience outside of the drug game. Still a devoted fan. Loved his 50th Law book though.

I have been a fan of 50 cent for a long time and this book told a lot more about his life that the movie did not touch on. The movie was obviously fictionalized but this book is supposed to be the truth of growing up in the hood. Some parts may be disturbing to some readers but overall it is not that graphic, although it does include sex, drugs and violence.

I saw 50 cent on the Chelsea Lately show recently. Until then, I hadn't given him a second thought. I honestly figured he was just another thug rapper type (I am not into rap). However, after seeing his interview, I found him charming and articulate. I found myself wanting to know more about him. This was the first book I downloaded on my Kindle. It was a great story. It is amazing and inspiring. It was brutally honest, and I respect that. After reading his book, I am amazed at how he has overcome so many struggles. I would never have guessed he was a high school drop out. It is clear that he is a gifted individual, and I personally find him much more endearing than Kayne, P Diddy...or any of the others. I may actually give his music a listen!

I love this book. 50 Cents tells his story with lots of integrity. He kept things real and to me made no attempt on hiding his experiences. I became more aware that life is what you make of it. Knowing what you desire in life is important to navigating the experiences and steps. He truly deserve all the good things that he has in his life. He really worked for what ever he has, and his gratitude, appreciation for his grandmother and recognizing support and help is a bonus. Very remarkable story of courage, survival, fearlessness, and bravery. To me he seems very intuitive, and a great soul.

Good book

This book definitely had me glued for the 3 days I read it for. It had a very simple writing style which kept me running through the pages. It was creative enough to keep me entertained and it had just enough humor to keep me chuckling. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for an easy, quick, and entertaining read.

I recently purchased this book for my fiance, who, obviously, loves 50 Cent. He read the first 50 pages the day it arrived, and I must tell you, he is NOT the type of person to sit down and read a book. It's about 50's life in Southside Queens and his experiences as a child up until his fame. While my fiance finds this book inspirational and exciting, I find the writing style to be fairly simple with 50 reiterating well-known facts (ex. You can't have life without death) and also presenting himself as an arrogant, almost martyr-type of character. Why do I say that? He talks about himself and his experiences in life (which may or may not be exaggerated) and repeatedly states that what he has gone through should be used as an example to others. He blames the media for his portrayal as a "bullet riddled rapper" but obviously, 50 uses it to his advantage without much complaint. He tries to come off as a mentor and inspiration, but I really did find him irritating at times. I think their are better role models for others to look up to. I'd rather read Sidney Poitier's memoirs than idolize 50 Cent. But that's just my view. For 50 Cent lovers, they'll be inspired and amazed.

A great book about 50's come up and his struggles to leave the drug game behind. Unlike these other supposed rap hustlers, 50 depicts his time selling drugs and depicts how if it hadn't been for the rap game, he would've gotten lost forever within the crack game. Read this book it's a must read on all levels.

I got this book during a period of public discount which made it nearly free, but no review was required or promised.I wish this book had more pictures in it, but the recipes are good. It does have some pictures, and they are all very nice, full color, large photos. I just really love it when there is one for every recipe.It is a very comprehensive book for ice cream lovers- it discusses ingredients, equipment, and techniques. The step by step directions are complete and clear. There are ample recipes for ice creams, ices, sorbets, and other frozen treats based on fruits/juice/creams. I loved also that there are topping recipes included, such as the perfect whipped cream, fudge sauce, ect.It is a paperback. It's easy to handle and not too thick or heavy, but there are a lot of good recipes in it. Maple Walnut is my favorite. I appreciated that the author remembers even little things- like removing skins off walnuts- that are included to help the ice cream be the best it can be. I love chocolate, and there are a lot of really good looking chocolate ice cream recipes that I can't wait to try. The ingredients are very easy to find, but these recipes do often use a LOT of cream and custard type cooked recipes with eggs. I did not see a lot of condensed milk in the recipes, instead, where I'd expect to see that, the recipes called for milk and sugar. The recipes don't take a lot of shortcuts, but that all equals to the very best ice cream in my experience.

I got an ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer as a wedding gift. This book has helped me put it to good use! There are a variety of recipes, from familiar ice cream flavors to more inventive, from bright and fruity sherbets and sorbets to boozy desserts. There are even recipes for mix-ins like the perfect cookies for cookies and cream ice cream or cookies for ice cream sandwiches.I have already made the lime sherbet and it was fresh and full of flavor (much better than store bought and not unnaturally green). I have my eye on London Fog (Earl Gray) ice cream next.This book would be perfect to gift with an ice cream maker on a wedding registry. The recipe book that comes with the machines is very basic!I received this book for free for my honest and unbiased review.

The recipes are straight forward and simple. The reasoning of simple ingredients is because they feels that by using the highest quality organic produce & dairy, and seasonal, the tastier the ice cream will be. It is true because using seasonal fruit is sweeter, thus using less sugar. There are a few recipes that do not require the use of an ice cream machine.

I am very disappointed that there are no recipes in this book that can't be found everywhere else. I was hoping for some recipes using unusual ingredients.The only difference that I can see between these recipes and any others is that these are much richer, using a dozen egg yolks and extreme amounts of heavy cream per recipe.

Was not as happy with the book as I anticipated. Lots of recipes but, many require a boat-load of eggs. Not as many healthy recipes as I wanted either.

I remember making ice cream when I was a kid with my grandmother. This book had so many options for so many frozen treats - including combinations and flavors I never would have thought of! It doesn't stop with just the ice cream either -- it has ideas for what to do with said ice cream, toppings, etc. A great cookbook for anyone who loves ice cream!I received this product at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

I'd like to see a consistent recipe volume. Some are 1 Quart, ,some 1.5 Quart and some 2. I would have gone with 1 Quart as a standard. If you want more, double the batch.

The book is bringing the best out of my life now I feel like SUMMER is here.
