There is some very good advice in this book regarding how to act in Taiwan culture. The sections on religious heritage are especially well done, and the influences of Confucianism and Chinese Buddhism were well covered.But the book is written by people who have lived in Taipei for many years, and they paint a picture of Taiwan people as somewhat selfish, rude to foreigners, and not very hospitable.They should come to Southern Taiwan! Just the OPPOSITE is true! The people welcome conversations, interaction and hosting of foreigners! They are very hospitable, often offering their homes to spend the night or to come for dinner. They always pay for the restaurant meals for their foreign guests. This book missed the point about that. Most Taiwanese people outside of Taipei are this way.

Moved to Taiwan and it was fun to read, and accurate.

This book was by far the most informative book on Taiwanese culture I have read so far.Worth reading for anyone planing on living or working in this nation.

This book was a great introduction to Taiwanese culture and what to expect when visiting Taiwan. I have read other books related to traveling and a lot of them lack the cultural depth and understanding. Culture Shock Taiwan gives a lot of information without being boring by adding a lot of personal touches. I really enjoyed reading about the culture and etiquette of Taiwan.

I've been reading a handful of books around Taiwan and China; relating to their history, business, traveling there, etc.This was a nice, concise, easy to read (especially skim) account of things. While it's not always on the mark 100%, I think it errs on the side of caution which I appreciate. A nice read.

Echoing what a number of other reviewers have noted, the reality in Taiwan is substantially different than what is portrayed in this book. It may have been more accurate 30-40 years ago, but Taiwan has changed substantially (politically, economically, and socially) in the interim and either the authors have not bothered to update their experiences or they themselves are stuck in the past. I found little of value in it and my wife, a native of Taiwan, found it cartoonish, laughable and occasionally offensive.

I was disapointed by this edition of the Culture Shock series. Taiwan, as exotic a place as you can imagine, must be full of specific cultural behaviors. And the entire book only said to be alert and aware of them. There were no specifics. For those of us who are looking for specific do's and don'ts when traveling, this book was largely useless.

I didn't like this book, we are planning to go to Taiwan to pick up or adopted daughter and I was hoping to learn about the culture to pass on to her. This did not have much about the family rituals and traditions and had alot of business info instead.

This book is everything I expected and more. I read through it in one sitting, sometimes salivating while reading the numerous recipes using pork roll. I couldn't wait to go in search for some Taylor Pork Roll here in NC, and luckily found it at one of the more upscale supermarkets in my area. I grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia, where it was readily available, and my family and I all loved it. This is a great little cookbook that is welcomed to my rather large collection of cookbooks.

Gave as a gift for Christmas and the recipient was thrilled! Has been enjoying the tidbits of information on a local/regional product.

Turns out this is more of a novelty than a cookbook, but I'm glad to have it on my New Jersey bookshelf.

This book is not what I expected. Not sure home much use I will get from it.

What is contained in this book is certainly good information. However, the problem I had with it is that it focuses mainly on very rarely seen pieces. It does very little in the way of everyday milk glass. It is a good book, but there is a wide open market for someone to publish a more comprehensive one.

I bought this book 4-5 years ago and really liked it. But as I have collected more and more glass, and seen much more than was ever possible without e-bay (!) I do see the need for a more comprehensive reference. I don't think it should be billed as an 'Encyclopedia', in other words. Like another reviewer stated, I wish there were a LOT MORE info on each piece of glass shown. While the pictures are great, they leave me wanting MORE. And I'm starting to get away from buying price guides, as they are so quickly outdated. I will add, however, that if you are looking for a 'general overview' of the category you may find this book completely adequate and never need another. The pictures are good, and varied; my hunger for MORE MORE MORE is not shared by everyone. I do recommend this book, but for the veteran collector I think it would be a supplemental reference and not the main one.

I find this book an invaluable tool. It is grouped in catagories and is a great assistant in hunting milkglass. I keep a copy in my car, one at my desk and another at my sister's home in Minnesota. Unfortunately, the prices are becoming outdated and are quite skewed. Some items have decreased in price while others have increased, but many dealers use it as a guide. It is up to the customer to learn the current asking prices.

This is a very informative book. I learned alot about milk glass. Nice pictures. Reccommend this book.

What an enormously informational book! This book has pictures, descriptions and prices of a wide range of milk glass pieces. I particularly liked the original catalog pages from some of the Big Lines. They are useful so the collector can identify missing pieces from their collection and know what to look for.

I found this book lacking much information which I was seeking. Many of the pages have nice pictures but give little information about the glass, how to identify manufacturers, dates of production, etc.. I am currently searching for a book that gives much more details and information then found in this selection. I know there must be something out there that is more thorough and informational.

I recently inherited my aunt's milk glass collection which I knew nothing about. I purchased this book to help, especially with some unmarked pieces. It was quite helpful to a novice. The delivery time was very good.

Am very pleased with this book. Page after page of great pictures. Easy to use and informative. You won't regret buying this book for your collecting library.

Nice cover and nice paper and good font. That deserves two stars. However, almost all of the reviews are misleading if you think they are talking about this book. Amazon is applying reviews in batch to the story, not to any particular edition. Beware. This edition, with this cover and with "The Discovery of the Great" at the top, is bogus. The closest you come to identifying the publisher is in the back: "Made in the USA San Bernardino, CA 26 February 2018". It will be printed just for you, most likely from text that was originally on standard 8 1/2" by 11". When sent to the printer and printed on 6" x 9" paper stock, most all the lines wrap so you get some short lines and some long - a complete mess! This printer did not even bother to define the right paper size. Also did not bother to print page numbers or anything beyond the Mark Twain text.

We bought this book for my child’s 7th grade summer reading. For this, annotation is required including underlining. The printing on this book is so so small that I literally gasped when I opened the book. This book should be 3-4 times as thick but they’ve condensed the font size so much to save pages that it is useless to a student. I have 20/20 vision and would struggle. I want my money back but am not going to bother sending it back because it would cost me as much postage as I paid for the “book.” The text size is what I’m guessing to be 5 pt font. It’s shocking!!!! We are headed to Barnes and Noble to get something we can actually use for school.

I've read TS many times... but this is a nice edition. Comfortable to hold and read, with lots of cool original illustrations. Love it.

Avoid this book unless you have eyes like an eagle. It is printed in 4pt type. You can hardly read it. Terrible and a big disappointment as this was for a child.

Wish I would have read the one star reviews. This book is the size of a magazine, has no page numbers, and is poorly formatted (one page will have text half-way down, and then it continues on the next page. Some dialogue is also formatted incorrectly. ) The formatting is so bad, it interrupts the flow of the book I have taken good formatting for granted until I bought a book with terrible formatting (this one.) I will be purchasing all of my books from a legitimate publishing house next time.

No doubt this is one of North America's classics due to its scope and enjoyability. A bildungsroman that depicts clearly the mind of a child of the times; The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will have any reader find delight in the simplicity of times past. Its main character's problematic conduct leads him to the most astonishing adventures and problems that only good will may help him avoid. Amazing and fun since the very first page. The source and father of many books in Latin America, the one that comes to my mind: "El juguete rabioso".

Tom Sawyer (and Huckleberry Finn) are books I somehow avoided reading all my life. I decided, as a homeschooling parent, to add them to my middle-schooler's curriculum this year with the Audible feature so I can listen to them, too. My student hates to read aloud, and we are coming off of a literature-rich curriculum where I was reading aloud a lot and my throat wanted a break from that. We are both enjoying this book (not quite at the end yet). The Audible reader sounds a lot like Hal Holbrook who played Mark Twain on stage and screen, so he navigates that old Missouri lingo like a natural.

I’ve been a Mark Twain fan for years, sticking mostly to his lesser know works like Roughing It and Letters from the Earth, etc... I had been avoiding reading Tom Sawyer because it felt too obligatory and I feared it would not live up to the hype.I was correct. While a great study of youth and “bad boys” and life in a small 1880’s river town, I found the story and plot itself to be weak. Maybe it’s because I knew of many of the episodes in the book through public discourse and when I read them firsthand they did not live up to the hype? Not sure. Anyway, I think if you are a Twain purist, then you have to read this, but don’t expect anything like his other works.Oh, and I don’t know what all the concern is about the “N” word. It is literally only used about 4 times and merely exposes how people spoke those days.

I ordered this book with the hopes of it helping me get a youth discipleship program off the ground. I am actually using the books tag line for our program: "Disciples making disciples." I am a big fan of Chan because he is very readable, biblically sound, and ministerially adept. I want to review the book in 3 sections; the first section will focus on the book as a whole, while sections 2 & 3 will focus on Strengths and weaknesses, and a conclusion respectively.OverviewMultiply begins with a well thought out section on how to use the book for discipleship. Chan and Beuving will follow their criteria here, throughout the book. Here's how Chan puts it: "The goals of the Multiply material are to help you understand Scripture and to give you the tools to disciple others in this process (Multiply, 9)." Chan offers sections covering weekly meetings, weekly videos, and weekly study guides. The book is divided into 5 parts; the first is living as a disciple maker, followed by living as the church, then how to study the bible, and finished with understanding the two testaments (Old and New). The last chapter is how to apply the material to the readers life.StrengthsIf you have ever read any Francis Chan books (Crazy Love, Forgotten God, Erasing Hell, etc.) you know they are very readable and deeply rooted in Scripture. Multiply is no different. In fact, this is probably one of his most theological books to date. Chan is also a master of the biblical story line, stretching from the Old testament to the New, and he is on full display in Multiply. His desire to direct his readers towards a closer relationship with Christ through a close study of scripture is unparalleled in a lot of famous Christian authors. I have read many Christian books, whether it be self-help or deep theology, and Chan's book is a refreshing medium between the two. Being a seminary student myself, this book will reach a wide range of reading abilities, while challenging the most skilled biblical exegetes and seminarians. More specifically, Chan's chapters on the Old and New Testaments are theological gold mines, as are his chapters on the church in our world today. What Chan does that is different from most Christian ministry books, is that he is personal and yet theologically challenging. He has changed the way books of this kind should be written from here on out.WeaknessesThe weaknesses worth mentioning from Chan's book are few and do not detract from the book, but the first one is the fact that the book does not give a clear plan on how to make disciples that make disciples. I was hoping to find some definitive answer to my questions on how to start a discipleship program, or how to teach youth students how to disciple other students, but Chan was lacking in this area. I finished the book understanding scripture better, but not the process of discipleship. The second weakness is that the chapters on how to study the bible were introductory at best. I was surprised by how poor and lacking these chapters were, despite the fact that Chan is a wonderful exegete of scripture. He offers nothing new on actually how to study the bible, but rather he offers the reasons why we study the bible.ConclusionChan's book is an easy and useful read for anyone in ministry. If you are looking for an in-depth study of discipleship or a new outlook on how to study the bible, this book is NOT for you. However, if you are looking to better understand the grand narrative of the bible and the churches mission, then I would recommend this book to you.

The beauty of the book is found in how easy it is to repeat with others.One of the other reviewers, who was basically positive, mentioned that this was no different from Sunday school curriculum. In a lot of ways, he is correct. The difference is that this isn't dependent on a lay-leader or "Christian professional" to use. If used properly, it can be a powerful tool in the hands of your everyday church attender.How we are trained is often the way that we will train others. If you were trained in a Sunday school, than you will, most likely, bring your neighbor to church and let someone else train him up or tell him about Jesus. With multiply, you could (and should), have your disciplee begin discipling someone on the first part of the book before you are even done going through it with them. They should, in turn, encourage the person that they are discipling to do the same. This has the potential to create a culture of discipleship whereby it spreads as a way of life instead of a forced program. That, I think, is the true power of the book. You don't need to reinvent the wheel and write your own discipleship study or train 10 guys on how to do discipleship. The book provides all the tools necessary (especially when coupled with the website) to equip someone to disciple another person. Even if the person you are discipling isn't done with the book, they are equipped to wrestle through the first few sections. By the time that you have finished going through it with them, you are in a position to monitor and assist them as they go through it with someone else. You learn by teaching/doing, and they do the same. Doing this doesn't pigeonhole discipleship as a job for the professionals, the pastors, or the teachers - it puts discipleship in the hands of every person.Other Pros:The book covers the basics of what people need to do know about the nature of discipleship (what it means to follow Jesus), the Bible, and the church. Right off the bat, I have to give kudos to Chan for including a section on the church. One of the downfalls of so many discipleship materials produced over the last few decades is a glaring omission of anything related to the church.All the material is available for free on their website, multiplymovement. This is comforting to me because it gives proof to the point that they aren't trying to make money by getting as many books purchased as possible (with a discipleship method reliant on their book). You can download the pdf chapters and print them out at your leisure, watch leadership videos, and even stream Chan reading his book to you - all for free. Incredible.Too Long Didn't Read Version: Multiply is great because it puts discipleship on the bottom shelf, not by diminishing the depth of content, but by making it accessible to everyone - not just pastors/leaders. I truly believe that this could be a discipleship tool that anyone could use to disciple another person with little preparation beforehand.

I have to admit: I read this so high because I read it in his voice. This book actually seems like two different ones. Both are good on their own but the transition isn’t well and I understand what he was doing with both sections but they don’t talk to each other very good. The first section is on discipleship the second is an overview of redemptive history. I agree that it’s important for every disciple to have but that’s not the theme of the book. The theme of the book is supposed to be multiplication.

This book had so much potential. It's so bad. It's like the author googled the top 10 things to do in Texas and threw them together in a poorly organized fashion. I wish they had some input from an actual Texan. Wish I had saved my money and bought something else. Also it's printed in China which is irrelevant but annoying. I feel like a book about a US state should be printed in the US.

I wish I could say good night to Michigan forever. But I can't, so this gets my nephew by at least. This winter hellscape is a better place with this book.

Cutest book. My son was born and raised in Texas. As a result we’ve been to all the places in the book. To personalize the book, I inserted/taped photos of my son on each page much to the delight of my grand daughter.

Had it before for same child that turned 1 today and I just wish Amazon would have told me I bought the same book b4.

I bought this book for my daughter as I had seen it in a store and hadn't bought it at that time so I was so happy to have found it on Amazon. It has all of the great places in Michigan in it and it will be fun as she gets older to take her to all the places and have her recognize the places in the book.

This book was OK but with all the great books out there I thought this was kind of bland. I bought her Good Night Seattle or something similar and I remember it had much more of a storyline. If you can get it for a great price I would have given it more stars just because it does mention some Texas history such as the Alamo and some of the larger cities.

Great little books! My young grandkids love them!

Love the Good Night books! Quick, easy, and pretty educational reads, plus my kids love just flipping through to see the pictures.
