Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books. The first of these, Unknown Legends of Rock ’n’ Roll (1998), profiles underappreciated cult rock artists of all styles and eras; the next, Urban Spacemen & Wayfaring Strangers: Overlooked Innovators & Eccentric Visionaries Of ’60s Rock (2000; also available as revised/updated 2013 ebook edition), features in-depth surveys of 20 underrated greats of the era. Love it!

Nice historical look at the band. Highly recommend this book.

Although this was a gift for a fan of the group, I was able to peruse the book and found it to be well laid out with some great background information and even better illustrations and period photographs. It appears to be a book that one must have to get a feel for what all the various lives of Fleetwood Mac really were, including the lives of all the members.

I bought this book before spending a summer based in Amman, and (in some cases) it was even more helpful than local advice. I loaned it out throughout the trip to various members in my group as they planned their weekend excursions. The maps alone and it's small, portable size make it a worthy purchase for anyone spending a few days to a few months in Jordan. The edition was printed in 2015 but as of August 2016 there were no inaccuracies.

So through, everything you need to know about the special sights, ancient city of Petra, crusader castle Karak, etc. also antiquities such as biblical sites, example Mt. Nebo, Moses. Places off the beaten path but not to be missed. What time of year to go,and very helpful maps to do walking tours for example Amman where to eat where to stay where to shop and sights not to miss.This has everything you need to know down to the exchange of currency.

This is an invaluable book for anyone who wants to visit Jordan--or for anyone who once lived there long ago, as I did, and wants an armchair travel guide to the country. I was there when the 1962 movie LAWRENCE OF ARABIA was filmed in Jordan's Wadi Rum, but this guide includes information about the historical Lawrence of Arabia (T.E. Lawrence) in Wadi Rum! The Lonely Planet JORDAN is a beautifully illustrated and richly instructive travel guide, highly recommended!

First, I have been to the Middle East many times, various countries. That being said I found this book highly judgmental towards how westerners try to adapt or be thoughtful while traveling "covering ones head as a woman is seen as offensive" what a pretentious line for a travel book. Covering my head in a hijab or scarf not only shows the respect for those cultures it also protected me from many unwanted looks and cat calls. This joke of advice is just one of many that made me cringe.Otherwise the book itself is not that great, the detail in exploration and sites could be more in depth.I wish Rick Steve's had done a book on Jordan. This book is not worth the price, does not even have laminated pages which is a plus for a good traveler who actually uses the book. I am buying the Rough Guide to Jordan, i have always had good luck with their books!

The main focus is Jessie. This girl has been horribly abused by her father for most of her life. The things that have been done to this girl are things you wouldn't think anyone could come back from. Will is sent to rescue her when she's 'kidnapped' and taken to Mexico. He does so much more than save her from her captures, he saves her from her life.There's not a lot that I can say that won't sound like a spoiler, but trust me, this story will leave you breathless. I can't wait for the sequel, her sister Lindseys story. I'm looking forward to lots more from this author.

Army General Travis Bains is a highly decorated military hero. He is known, loved, and respected by all that knew or served under him. He was the shining example that everyone wanted to live up to and emulate. Everyone but her younger daughter, Jessica, at the age of twenty, she managed to embarrass him every time she could. Her older sister, Lindsay, followed in her father’s, rather large, footsteps. She was a second lieutenant serving on the same base as her father; Fort Bragg, North Carolina.When Captain William Hendricks is ordered to report to General Bains, he had no idea what he had done to warrant this meeting and is racking his brain for the possible transgression. To his surprise, the General asks him for a personal favor to the family. All members of the military are brothers in arms, thus the family premise. General Bains’ daughter, Jessie has been kidnapped by members of a drug cartel and demanding a ransom. He headed for Mexico to bring Jessie home. The rescue from the drug lords is the easy part, after all, Will is a professional and he is good at what he does. Rescuing Jessie from herself is a much more daunting challenge and one that Will isn’t prepared to take on.This is a highly emotionally charged story of power, abuse, and bravery. The stark truth that is often kept in a dark closet is brought out into the light and exposed in all its ugliness. I was surprised at the brutality of the tale. Jessie, with the help and tenacious support of Will, claws her way slowly out of an abyss of pain and misery. From the depths of depression to the ultimate apex of long-desired freedom, Leanne Davis takes you on a trip that speeds out of control. All you can do is hold on, with white-knuckled fists, until the ride reaches its conclusion. I highly recommend this to everyone but would be amiss without a warning. This highly emotional saga is not for the constitutionally weak and faint-hearted.

Jessie is kidnapped and raped and tortured. Her father is a general and gets one of his soldiers to go in and rescue her. She is wild and cuts herself when everything gets to be too much. Will is a captain and rescues Jessie but wants absolutely nothing to do with her. She’s loud, obnoxious and can’t stay out if trouble. When she ends up pregnant, Will offers to marry her and claim the baby. She seems to be going downhill so he records the general admitting everything and then sends Jessie away to get help.Two years later he shows back up and he can’t believe the change in her. He spends his leave with her but then tells her he won’t see her again and to get on with her life. When he is reported missing, Jessie heads back home and the General is waiting for her. He wants the tapes Will made but she knows nothing about them. When Will is reported dead, Jessie and her sister decide to release the tapes and make the General pay for what he had done to her.This book has material some might not be comfortable with. Rape. Pretty good story. I wasn’t to fond of Will because even though Jessie had be through a horrible ordeal, he didn’t want anything to do with her. Then all of a sudden he’s in love with her. Jessie used sex and cutting to deal with her problems.

Leanne Davis knows how to rip the hearts out of her readers one muscle fiber at a time and then slowly piece us back together only to rip us apart again. This book was so real and so dark and so sweet. Jessie has been broken by life and abuse after abuse but Will has saved her from her past and herself and now it's time for Jessie to start living. I am giving away no spoilers here because this story will speak for itself. This is not a fairy tail. This is the reality of so many women today. Jessie is in the minority in that she had someone who knew the truth of her suffering and stood up for her when she couldn't stand up for herself. Prepare yourself for this story and keep your mind open to the suffering that Jessie has gone through and remember that she is only trying to cope with what life has dealt her. Bring a couple boxes of tissues...

All I did was kneeboard then, but I liked the smell of the Turf lobby and would spend a good deal of time admiring the fluorescent wheels, board graphics - namely, the Tony Hawk Powell-Peralta Bird Skull graphic - or the griptape art (Even the pre-cut Nash circular saw grip design seemed awesome to me at the time).When I finally started skateboarding in 1995, the first mid nineties memory that comes to mind is the girl who modeled for Teabag clothing. She was gorgeous in a way reserved only for a boy on the verge of pubescence and she graced the pages of Big Brother magazine, where Sean Cliver worked.I didn't take much notice at the time, but when Sean Cliver wrote Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art in 2005, it brought a lot of my memories back, not just from the perfect storm that was Big Brother, but of those years at the Turf all those memories that each wheel, board graphic or piece of torn griptape held. Now, I am not and probably never will be a skateboard collector, but his most recent follow-up book, The Disposable Skateboard Bible broadens the years of nostalgia and is an amazing read for anyone who holds their greatest memories in the very thing they have spent their life destroying. I bought this book after picking up a copy of Concrete Wave magazine. There was an interview for the author and a few photos from the book which I found very interesting.When I started skateboarding it was in 1986, and at the height of popularity in my area. Every shop was covered with neon deck designs and day glo plastic parts for sale. I don't remember many (if any) wheels that were natural colored white, everything was bright and loud. Every company stood out, there was no mistake for a Vision board or a G&S, you could even tell the difference from the shapes alone.I never actually had a board from these years, my parents bought me a generic board while my friends all had the skate shop specials. So all I could do is read the Transworld and Thrasher magazines at the super market.Years later, I wanted to buy a reissue board and while searching around I knew there was a few favorites that were missing. The reissue market is mostly Santa Cruz and Powell, with some other brands like a few Vision. After finding this book from reading Concrete Wave, I was amazed at the amount of skateboards I remember and the ones that I didn't.The book is produced on a nice thick cover and each page is very thick, also there is a bit of distressed look to the pages. Each deck is photographed very clearly, and the range of graphics is amazing, I had no ideas there were so many colors to some of the decks or alternate graphics.I think the part that really surprised me was how I could remember so many of the boards and who had them. It also kinda of made me realize that how technical skating has gotten really left behind the unique shapes that defined some of the boards. I just recently bought my first longboard and find it's more fun as their shapes and design are fun since it's different from each other.In closing, if you have any interest in skating history or just interested in the graphics, or even wanting to create your own custom skateboard, this is a great resource. The book covers from the beginning of skateboarding, to about 2007.BTW my favorite skateboard?The Schmitt Stick John Lucreo from 1987.

If you grew up skateboarding, or even were around the sport this book, ehemm, bible will surely bring back some fond memories of your skating days.WARNING: Be prepared for endless hours of online shopping and searching for that deck you always wanted but never got!

I purchased this book as a gift for my boyfriend who skated Powell in the early 90's. He was overjoyed. Like so many other reviewers that skated back in the day, for him it was a walk down memory lane. The book is hefty, with beautiful art. This is the one coffee table book that every visitor to our home picks up and looks through. Love it!

This book is very well put together, it is impossible to gather all skateboard designs done by every company every, but the book does a well job at showing some old school vs new school boards and graphics. It is nice to see the work from companies that are no longer around but played an important role in the growth of skateboarding in the 80s and 90s

i love this book, it's a lot of great art tied to a time when skateboarding wasn't 8-11 year old suburban kids who do it as a competitive sport rather than a a rebellious act of self-expression which is what these designs, and skateboarding is supposed to be about.

Very cool fun book. I skated a lot in the late '80s and of and on in the '90s. More recently I bomb hills on a longboard, and my nephew is getting into it. This book is a complete and enjoyable look at practically every deck design one could possibly recall, from the 1950s to now. Well done and could work as a good coffee table book, but understand - there are few actual skater/skate shots, or anything about trucks or wheels. This is an encyclopedia for collectors and lovers of decks and deck art. There are many short essays by skaters and designers with stories that add a lot.

This book is rad. Definitely a trip down memory lane!

This is not just a great book for kids.......I have been to London several times and still had a lot to learn! Wonderful graphics and images!

We go to London fairly regularly, but this is the first trip that my 8 yr old seemed invested in picking out destinations himself. He loved reading the book and giving us facts - even my London-dwelling brother in law's family didn't know them!

Great book, but some of the information is out of date as of 2018. Nonetheless, a good read for my 7yo prior to our trip to London.

We are using this book to engage our granddaughter prior to our trip to London together. She get's to make some requests as we put plans into action. Written for kids 3-6th grade.

Excited to use this book for an upcoming trip- the images are great for my 9 year old and it will be great for him to have this on the trip and note the images to what he did and say.

Such a fun book for the kids, it has great real pictures, easy to read blurbs and stories... now they want to go there!

The book is very entertaining and interesting, but it does contain inaccurate information. For instance, in the section on Westminster Abbey it states Henry VIII is buried there. That makes me think the rest of the book probably wasn't fact-checked very closely, which is disappointing in a book for children, which (one would hope) would be educational.

I have read quite a few golf books (by Jack Nicklaus, etc.) but this book was really great. I have been playing golf since 1969 and I have had a problem with hitting the ball to the right. This book finally showed the weak and strong grip and I changed my grip so it was stronger and now am hitting the ball straight (and sometimes even with a slight draw). I really like the way the book was written, namely that a player can always work on his golf swing, and try to improve various aspects of it, just as Nick Price has done throughout his career. This book is definitely worth reading for anyone who wishes to improve his golf game.

I highly recommend "The Swing" by Nick Price. For a couple of years, it seemed Nick knocked down the flagstick with every shot. His journal entries in the book are fascinating. The " Pre-Set" drill helped me tremendously. I think I was playing my best golf ever during the time I was working diligently on that one drill. I loved looking at the before and after pictures of Nick's swing. Like night and day... Buy it .. hit 800 balls a day.. and your scores will get better... guaranteed !!

Nick Price is a rare one. He's one of the hardest working golfers out there and he's one of the nicest guys out there! This is a great book that follows the evolution of his golf swing and how he did a total make- over of his swing. Include s a lot of David Ledbettor tips and drills. A great golf book!

This book greatly improved my swing. After reading several key chapters in this book, and adopting the advice given, my ball striking is significantly better than it was previously.Nick Prices advocates for a wide, balanced swing with "quiet" leg action. For me, this produced a more powerful and accurate swing that has a shorter backswing. I also found that my hips, knees, back are much more comfortable with the Nick Price swing, compared to the "leg swing" that other instructors promote.I am convinced that the swing taught in this book is a great one for amateur/weekend golfers because it is very simple and produces a very consistent motion. Note that if you are trying to win long-drive contests this swing ISN'T the one that you want to use; however, if you are looking for a swing that is going to get you onto fairways and greens (and not lose many golfballs), look no further than this book.
