This is a beautiful guest book. This was for a man's party so I really like 'HE THAT LOVETH' along the side and also there is a lot of symbolism around a dragonfly. There is a lot of room to write inside. We had about 200 people so there plenty of pages.

This guest book is a cute hardcover, but is pretty thin overall. The pages will serve as a great book for my guests, but it's not as substantial as I'd hoped.

The indefatigable optimist Friedrich Austerlitz (known to the world as Fred Astaire) sounds forth on his life and work in this popular autobiography, which was first published around 1960. You won't hear much about Fred's travails and difficulties -- while filming DADDY LONG LEGS in 1955, co-star Leslie Caron remembers him weeping into a makeup towel over his wife's death -- but none of that here. What's left is breezy, entertaining, but leaves the reader with the feeling he or she has not experienced the real man.

I'm not a super fan of autobiographies. Most seem to me to be a list of " I did this and then I did this" rather than a story of someone's life. I kind of thought that Fred Astaire would have a more entertaining and warm way with telling his story. And he does. Reading this book, "Steps in Time", is like sitting with a friend and recalling all the interesting happenings in his life. Very real and unpretentious, but also a wonderful picture of the life of this very talented man. I've always been a Fred Astaire fan so for me this book was pure enjoyment from beginning to end.

I have always loved Fred Astaire movies. It was great fun to read his perspective on his life. I have read quite a few autobiographies of famous actors and actresses. He alone had something kind to say about everyone. His gracious demeanor comes through in his story.

Now this has details. Most of the industry names Astaire mentions I do not know but I just read past them. Enjoyed the information he gives on the people I do recognize. His humor keeps the book interesting. His love and faithfulness to his wife, Phyllis, is heartwarming and the reader feels his grief when he loses her. Astaire clearly works hard to achieve his lighter than air dancing style but watching him perform never looks labored. Glad I watched many of his movies before reading the book. That made it easier to follow the details he describes.

Fred's way with words, his breezy light soaring style, reminds one of his dancing. This book is Fred-direct: the importance of his personal life, even over career, is paramount. As a read, it's a must for all interested a private man's life in filmed dance. It's completely enjoyable...if not particularly revealing about his art.At the end of the book, Fred mildly mocks the idea of over intellectualizing dance. Other than "maintaining the basic principles of balance and grace", he even questions a commitment to a particular style. He ends his story simply: "I just dance.".That's Fred...but all the intensity, work, and preparation, and in his case, worry, that went into the creation of some of the greatest dance of the century...is sublimated in this wonderful book. Fred hardly even notes all the sweat that went into his art. That's Fred too.In the revealing introduction by the lovable, ever feisty, Ginger Rogers, he acknowledges her special, and highly reciprocal role in his career...and he in hers. And, in fact, as in her autobiography, neither of them were ever highly articulate about their art. Who cares?Today we know them from their films...and their artistry will be available to all the generations ahead. In this, their eternal realm, they were, and are, highly articulate...to say the least. "Steps in Time" and "Ginger: My Story", just whet the appetite to see the films...and in their chosen milieu...which for both of them...and especially for the solo-Fred...in spite of their considerable acting talents, meant one word...PERFORMANCE.

In excerpt cut from final text Fred wrote, that he:"... know more about a lot of things than people might think. I know a hell of a lot more about show business than I'll admit and that goes for many other things such as sports, politics, women, children, critic."Discrete gentleman as usually at the end, but we know that you knew, Freddie, after all we know and love your films and all of you in them :)).

My daughter, a 1940's movie buff, said that this was the best Fred Astaire book that she's ever read! She was sad when she had turned the last page.

Richie Unterberger is the author of numerous rock history books. The first of these, Unknown Legends of Rock ’n’ Roll (1998), profiles underappreciated cult rock artists of all styles and eras; the next, Urban Spacemen & Wayfaring Strangers: Overlooked Innovators & Eccentric Visionaries Of ’60s Rock (2000; also available as revised/updated 2013 ebook edition), features in-depth surveys of 20 underrated greats of the era. Turn! Turn! Turn!: The Folk-Rock Revolution (2002) and its sequel, Eight Miles High: Folk-Rock’s Flight from Haight-Ashbury to Woodstock (2003) cover the history of the 1960s folk-rock movement. Love it!

Nice historical look at the band. Highly recommend this book.

Although this was a gift for a fan of the group, I was able to peruse the book and found it to be well laid out with some great background information and even better illustrations and period photographs. It appears to be a book that one must have to get a feel for what all the various lives of Fleetwood Mac really were, including the lives of all the members.

I bought this book before spending a summer based in Amman, and (in some cases) it was even more helpful than local advice. I loaned it out throughout the trip to various members in my group as they planned their weekend excursions. The maps alone and it's small, portable size make it a worthy purchase for anyone spending a few days to a few months in Jordan. The edition was printed in 2015 but as of August 2016 there were no inaccuracies.

So through, everything you need to know about the special sights, ancient city of Petra, crusader castle Karak, etc. also antiquities such as biblical sites, example Mt. Nebo, Moses. Places off the beaten path but not to be missed. What time of year to go,and very helpful maps to do walking tours for example Amman where to eat where to stay where to shop and sights not to miss.This has everything you need to know down to the exchange of currency.

This is an invaluable book for anyone who wants to visit Jordan--or for anyone who once lived there long ago, as I did, and wants an armchair travel guide to the country. I was there when the 1962 movie LAWRENCE OF ARABIA was filmed in Jordan's Wadi Rum, but this guide includes information about the historical Lawrence of Arabia (T.E. Lawrence) in Wadi Rum! The Lonely Planet JORDAN is a beautifully illustrated and richly instructive travel guide, highly recommended!

First, I have been to the Middle East many times, various countries. That being said I found this book highly judgmental towards how westerners try to adapt or be thoughtful while traveling "covering ones head as a woman is seen as offensive" what a pretentious line for a travel book. Covering my head in a hijab or scarf not only shows the respect for those cultures it also protected me from many unwanted looks and cat calls. This joke of advice is just one of many that made me cringe.Otherwise the book itself is not that great, the detail in exploration and sites could be more in depth.I wish Rick Steve's had done a book on Jordan. This book is not worth the price, does not even have laminated pages which is a plus for a good traveler who actually uses the book. I am buying the Rough Guide to Jordan, i have always had good luck with their books!

The main focus is Jessie. This girl has been horribly abused by her father for most of her life. The things that have been done to this girl are things you wouldn't think anyone could come back from. Will is sent to rescue her when she's 'kidnapped' and taken to Mexico. He does so much more than save her from her captures, he saves her from her life.There's not a lot that I can say that won't sound like a spoiler, but trust me, this story will leave you breathless. I can't wait for the sequel, her sister Lindseys story. I'm looking forward to lots more from this author.

Army General Travis Bains is a highly decorated military hero. He is known, loved, and respected by all that knew or served under him. He was the shining example that everyone wanted to live up to and emulate. Everyone but her younger daughter, Jessica, at the age of twenty, she managed to embarrass him every time she could. Her older sister, Lindsay, followed in her father’s, rather large, footsteps. She was a second lieutenant serving on the same base as her father; Fort Bragg, North Carolina.When Captain William Hendricks is ordered to report to General Bains, he had no idea what he had done to warrant this meeting and is racking his brain for the possible transgression. To his surprise, the General asks him for a personal favor to the family. All members of the military are brothers in arms, thus the family premise. General Bains’ daughter, Jessie has been kidnapped by members of a drug cartel and demanding a ransom. He asked Will to rescue his daughter and bring her home safely.This request wasn’t surprising to Will. As a member of the 3rd Special Forces Group and was good at his job, very good. The General made it painfully clear that this assignment wasn’t a military action and not an order. He could decline without repercussions but this wasn’t Will’s style. He headed for Mexico to bring Jessie home. The rescue from the drug lords is the easy part, after all, Will is a professional and he is good at what he does. Rescuing Jessie from herself is a much more daunting challenge and one that Will isn’t prepared to take on.This is a highly emotionally charged story of power, abuse, and bravery. The stark truth that is often kept in a dark closet is brought out into the light and exposed in all its ugliness. I was surprised at the brutality of the tale. Jessie, with the help and tenacious support of Will, claws her way slowly out of an abyss of pain and misery. From the depths of depression to the ultimate apex of long-desired freedom, Leanne Davis takes you on a trip that speeds out of control. All you can do is hold on, with white-knuckled fists, until the ride reaches its conclusion. I highly recommend this to everyone but would be amiss without a warning. This highly emotional saga is not for the constitutionally weak and faint-hearted.

Jessie is kidnapped and raped and tortured. Her father is a general and gets one of his soldiers to go in and rescue her. She is wild and cuts herself when everything gets to be too much. Will is a captain and rescues Jessie but wants absolutely nothing to do with her. She’s loud, obnoxious and can’t stay out if trouble. When she ends up pregnant, Will offers to marry her and claim the baby. She seems to be going downhill so he records the general admitting everything and then sends Jessie away to get help.Two years later he shows back up and he can’t believe the change in her. He spends his leave with her but then tells her he won’t see her again and to get on with her life. When he is reported missing, Jessie heads back home and the General is waiting for her. He wants the tapes Will made but she knows nothing about them. When Will is reported dead, Jessie and her sister decide to release the tapes and make the General pay for what he had done to her.This book has material some might not be comfortable with. Rape. Pretty good story. I wasn’t to fond of Will because even though Jessie had be through a horrible ordeal, he didn’t want anything to do with her. Then all of a sudden he’s in love with her. Jessie used sex and cutting to deal with her problems.

Leanne Davis knows how to rip the hearts out of her readers one muscle fiber at a time and then slowly piece us back together only to rip us apart again. This book was so real and so dark and so sweet. Jessie has been broken by life and abuse after abuse but Will has saved her from her past and herself and now it's time for Jessie to start living. I am giving away no spoilers here because this story will speak for itself. This is not a fairy tail. This is the reality of so many women today. Jessie is in the minority in that she had someone who knew the truth of her suffering and stood up for her when she couldn't stand up for herself. Prepare yourself for this story and keep your mind open to the suffering that Jessie has gone through and remember that she is only trying to cope with what life has dealt her. Bring a couple boxes of tissues...
