About the Author
Kenneth W. Osbeck (MA, University of Michigan) taught for thirty-five years, first at Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music, and then at Grand Rapids Baptist College and Seminary. It is one of the most inspirational books one could possess to be able to read the history of hymns and study the Scriptures that accompany each entry. We have read this book and used it to begin our day with the LORD. We can fully recommend it to any who loves hymns and wants to know the history behind them at the same time use the volume as a devotional guide to begin each day.
Two basic resource books available to us to ensure our spiritual well- being are the Bible and the church hymnal. This book, Amazing Grace, is a wonderful means of personal inspiration with factual stories that prompted the writing of these hymns. This book would be a great tool to ministers and teachers, and to all who want to be uplifted. It includes 366 inspiring hymn stories for daily devotions.
I really enjoy this book. The history of the songs are wonderful. I love the full printed song so I can have our piano player play them when we do not have them in the hymn. I will be buying more to give to family and friends.
Absolutely wonderful book for daily devotions and I had an early edition and bought this to give to friends who have little children. I am sad to see the hymns neglected to make way for ditties with limited depth! Anything to encourage the next generation to plant the richness of these words and melodies in their children's hearts. Reach for depth that lasts!!

Really enjoy this! I don't use it daily but it's nice to have an extra supplement to add to devotions when I want to :)
...or anyone who loves hymns. The devotions are very nice. There are scripture selections (you'll have to keep a Bible handy as they are only referenced, not typed out), a short story of the song, or composer, lyrics to the song, and a few measures of music...not the whole hymn. There is enough space on each page to write a few notes, thoughts, or a prayer. I have purchased several copies as gifts and they've been well received.
This book is simply a treasure! It's so good to have a book such as this - when there are timesa tune of a certain hymn keeps running through your mind. Or part of the words of a hymn that hasa special meaning to you keeps playing over and over in your head, and you wish you could remember all of words.When that happens, now, I pick up this book, find the page it's on, and I'm able to remember all of the tune and lyrics. What a special blessing it is to me! I didn't even know it existed, until mygranddaughter-in-law told me about it. She gave me a copy of it, for my very own.Thank You, Lord, for the blessings this book brings to me!
