Sketching from the Imagination: Fantasy is a delightful sequel to the earlier book which is also from 3dtotal Publishing, namely Sketching from the Imagination: An Insight into Creative Drawing.For those who love sketchbooks, you'll be treated to another 320-page volume of beautiful sketches from top artists around the world. I really enjoyed the earlier book and I'm thrilled to have another thick compilation of sketches.The layout is nice. There's a very sketchbook feel with textured line borders, handwritten headings, the many sketches wonderfully reproduced, many printed to the edge.The artists featured appear alphabetically. They talk about their love for sketching, inspiration and ideas, the materials they use, and their sketching techniques. Every sketch also comes with a short caption. This is an insightful and inspiring book, one that you will want to leave close to you on the table or shelf.This volume focuses on fantasy. There are many character designs, mostly human based, but occasionally there are those walkers like orcs, skeletons or anthropomorphic characters. There are only a few fantasy environment sketches.The art is fantastic. Sketching tools are usually pen and pencils, and you'll get to see how these artists use theirs to draw such beautiful drawings. Some are so refined, especially the pencil drawings, that I would consider them as finished art rather than just a sketch. Overall, it's really great to see the imaginative and creative product of these artists.I really wish 3dtotal Publishing would come up with more of these sketchbook volumes, perhaps for creature design, environment, sci-fi, comics. Let me put it this way--I live on these books live humans live on food---yes, I eat books. Seriously, I have the first two volumes and I preordered the third and I am very excited that it is being released July 1st. These are the best books on artist's process and work flow that I have EVER come across. These are must haves for any hobbyist or professional. Get them. I command you....well...if you wanna....k.......
Another wonderous book full of artists' raw sketches...their sketches show their thought process and how they proceed to their final pieces. There are notes interspersed by the various artists explaining how their sketches work for them or what they mean. If you love looking at raw sketchbooks, you'll love this book!
Great book. Interesting sketches and illustrations from a number of cool artists. Great for inspiration. Great for causal exploration. Great for detailed examination! As with the other books in this series, the commentary by the artists preceding each section provides a bit of interesting insight into what they were thinking when they created the works. As I said before, great book. And it's a bargain especially considering how much you get.

I have both of the Sketching From Imagination books from 3dtotal and they are both excellent! This one in particular is extremely inspiring to me. The diversity of artwork, the ideas that these artists have, and their insights are amazing. If you are looking for inspiration, or just an admirer of great drawing, get this book because it does not disappoint!
Love the artwork in this! My only complaint is that based on the title I thought it was going to be more a book to work through to get better at sketching not a collection of works.
This book is an amazing insight into the minds of very talented and grounded illustrators alongside very beautiful and awesome art
